wisdom share
Yes, of course you called this in.
INTENTION
Here we gather to connect with rad humans, to dig our toes into soil, to celebrate our pursuit of wholeness (and the essential misadventures along the way), to sing in an old cedar sauna, to meditate, to instigate good mischief, to design our ceremony, to offer compassion and kudos, to dance, to be real, to be embodied, and most importantly, to be stoked.
We are bursting with giddiness to gather with inspirational friends and those who self-identify as ‘normal’, to make new connections and gift each other our wisdom freely. While we might not be practicing witchcraft, we know that the confluence of these people, these intentions, and this place is magical.
so we gather
The Wisdom Share facilitation team is entirely volunteer, so we are not paying ourselves. For us, this is the ultimate opportunity to share a true heart-offering. It is in this spirit of generosity that all attendees are invited to apply to share a skill, lesson, or activity with the collective (though it’s not required or guaranteed).
Since many of our lessons and activities will be led by attendees, we can share topics our facilitation team is stoked to offer (the rest is a mystery that will reveal itself as people register). As folks register and apply to teach, after loving interview, selection, and collaboration, we will (consensually) post everyone’s bio and offerings/interests on this (password protected) page. The itinerary will be as alive as we are, so expect changes up to, and probably even during, the event.
So, what can we tell you for sure? Well, our WS co-conspirators (leadership) team is happy to offer interactive classes in topics such as: safe non-sexual touch, rewriting your life’s story through mythopoetics, culinary medicine, group management techniques, central nervous system hacks for grounding, harvesting gratitudes through journaling, and a shared rhythm workshop lead by Claudio Ortiz!
The Space
Halfway between Seattle, WA and Vancouver, BC, SunRay Shire hosts travelers from all over the world and all walks of life who are drawn to the unique structures on the land.
Explore walking trails, mountain views, gardens, apple orchards, and many examples of handcrafted, sculptural homes and structures on this stunning and rugged nine-acre property. The Shire is built by our dear friend Bonnie and her late partner SunRay. Bonnie is incredible, and we are so stoked to support her work and be invited to gather on this land. It’s otherworldly! SunRay Shire is an immersive, creative place perfect to unplug and reconnect. On that note, there is wifi in the house, but we ask all tech be used outside of shared spaces and not during group activities.
A note on privacy: all attendees are asked to refrain from using their phones, cameras, and any other recording devices during group events. You’re welcome to take pictures of yourself and with others (with their consent) during breaks. We will share beautiful, professional photos taken by the WS leadership team.
Check out the Phones, Photos, & Tech Policy under in the FAQs section below to understand the incredibly intentional way we have chosen to limit tech in order to protect the authenticity of the experience and the privacy and professional personas of attendees, while also capturing incredible photos and little videos of moments for those who would like a few beautiful images of a once in a lifetime kind of gathering.

THE WS CO-CONSPIRATORS
Katherine Bennett
Katherine is a stargazer, wind-lover, bone-huntress, therapist, scholar-practitioner of nondual tantric traditions, ritualist, and ceremonialist. She has an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (Transpersonal Wilderness Therapy) and an MA in Religious Studies (Indian spiritual traditions and Sanskrit), both from Naropa University in Boulder, CO.
Katherine shines brightest in the liminal spaces where Transpersonal and Depth Psychology, Deep Ecology, and Ecopsychology intersect with Mythopoetics, Narrative Therapy, rites of passage, mythology, folklore, spirituality, and ceremony/ritual. Her diverse background includes active duty military service, extensive travels in Asia, and over a decade of experience as a yoga teacher and meditation instructor.
“I can tell that this masterful gathering will entice fellow wise, witchy bitches because my full bio is the most honest and transparent presentation of myself that I have written. We are calling in all the wild, weird, and wondrous beings we know to co-create a magical experience for all. This is a space to bring your full and true self!”
-Katherine
Claudio Ortiz
Claudio is a seasoned massage therapist, musician, community organizer and lovebug. Claudio was born in Puerto Rico and mainland-raised and after 6 years of service in the US Army, he turned towards gentler ways.
Claudio is a founding member of Cohoba, a BIPOC led nonprofit fostering mental health and wellness where he facilitates healing backcountry education experiences. Musically, he uses the Congas to explore Afro-Caribbean rhythms. He’s currently studying this culture’s tradition of using sound for connection and healing with excitement to connect his practices of massage and sound to build more vibrant, and vibrating, communities.
“I’m just grateful to be here. The opportunity to connect, to expand our community and to really feel ourselves, to begin to free ourselves, and to free each other. That’s why I’m here.”
-Claudio
Katelyn McKinney
Katelyn is something else. She’s a therapeutic backcountry guide leading restorative retreats and expeditions for physicians, veterans, and communities navigating traumatic experiences. She vibrates with the joy she finds in this calling. She’s an artist, linguist, potter, hunter, amateur mycologist, wood worker, and good mischief maker, often found covered in something with a giddy grin.
Professionally, she’s served as the director of healthcare and social work for the country’s largest homeless shelter in 2020, before that working in sextrafficking intervention, as an emergency room rape crisis counselor, and even deploying a few times on active duty. Nowadays life is a bit more chill, studying mindfulness and foraging in the wetlands of Juneau with her husband James and their pups.
“We’re gathering the posse that meets folks in their lightning storms to help hold the rod, so we can harvest that electric shit for good.
I think, for me, showing up with your ‘whole-self’ also means showing up with your ‘whole-ass’. Here we are, shadows and all, befriending these messy, wiggly, sacred bodies and lives.”
-Katelyn
James McKinney
James is a fantastic human to be around. He has a gentle kindness and curiosity that allows him to see people in ways that leave them feeling truly known. He serves the Juneau Alaska community as a Doctor of Osteopathy, finding joy in helping patients understand what’s happening within their bodies and how they can promote healing outside of the medical complex. He cares deeply about helping patients preserve their autonomy. In our little community hospital he often has more hours than patients and enjoys using that space for juicy, difficult, and necessary conversations.
James is a skier, climber, musician, quantum physics buff, expedition medicine expert, comedy lover, and passionate amateur chef. He and his wife Katelyn enjoy creating spaces where culinary medicine, wilderness play, and community connection can promote healing and craft fulfilling lives.
“It is so exciting to have this opportunity to gather with wonderful people and share in this thing we call life together. I can’t wait to share meals and joy with you in such a magical place!”
-James

“I believe in kindness.
Also in mischief.
Also in singing,
especially when
singing is not
necessarily prescribed.”

FAQs

Read and adhere to the Community Agreements and the Privacy & Tech Policy
Read the entire webpage & the FAQs section to see if you can answer your own question before emailing our volunteer co-conspirator leadership team.
Do not disseminate this event to anyone without explicit permission from Katelyn, Katherine, Claudio or James. If you have a close friend you'd like to invite, email us at wesharewisdom@gmail.com to tell us about them, and we will give a green light if it sounds like a good fit and our primary and secondary contacts have had a chance to register. (Skipping this step can result in a refund being issued if we have an unknown to us registrant.)
During the retreat, all attendees and facilitators will contribute to the preparation and clean up of meals & tending to group spaces
Arrive with a beginner's mind. We know we'll have a bunch of facilitators, educators, therapists, physicians, execs, professional weirdos, etc. If you can, arrive ready to lower your critical gaze and raise your curious eyes to see what golden little nuggets and humans are there for you.
Keep this space free of sexual/sensual energies please. We have a few witchy bitches who are hyper sensitive to sexual advances, sexual feedback, neediness, sleaziness... whatever you want to call it. They will sniff you out, and you'll be asked to leave. So, if you know you're thirsty and might slip into the sleaze, find another retreat focused on sexual connection.
Communicate in real time if something comes up so we can try to help you find a creative solution
Stay present. If you'd like to bring some wine or a joint to share over dinner, we're fine with that. Please don't get drunk or so stoney that you're no longer with us. We'd really like you to be here for it, ya know?
Come ready to have a fucking blast. We're gonna dance, sing, scream, meditate, skinny dip (if you like), eat delicious food, and get inspired by the incredible humans that have gathered.
If you'd like your short bio & photo added to our attendees section of this page, please send it to us! It will be great for everyone to glimpse each other and build some excitement!

We are excited to create a space where people can really bathe in the wisdom our witchy bitches are bringing to share. The invitation is to see how it feels to unplug for 48 hours. We've experienced tech free connection, and it's worth it. We have a number that your families can call if they need to reach you in case of an emergency. If you need to keep your phone in your room or car and check it at night or outside of group spaces and activities, you may by all means meet your needs.
Different attendees have different needs for personal and professional privacy, and facilitators have varied preferences on if and how their image and content is shared.
Therefore, NO PHOTOS, VIDEO, or AUDIO can be taken by attendees during WBWS activities (all classes, meals, etc.) or of other WBWS attendees without their consent.
Cellphones are to be left in tents and rooms along with laptops and any other tech. During your down time or away from the group, you're welcome to use your tech if you so choose. (For any adaptive tech considerations email us at: wesharewisdom@gmail.com)
HAVE NO FEAR: Don't worry, we also want you to have some beautiful images to remember this incredible event by. We will also be gathering everyone's photography privacy preferences and make sure that images of those who would like to remain anonymous aren't included.
There is an explicit photography and videography consent form that will be gone over and signed upon arrival.
We will not use your image without your consent. The reciprocity of this sentiment is a requirement for attendance.
Okay..... I think that should make it beyond clear, but if you have questions, hit us up at wesharewisdom@gmail.com

This event is open to a carefully selected crew of 35 Witchy Bitch identifying humans. If you relate more to the title 'normal open-minded human' you're welcome too! If you appreciate irreverence and the sacred, we welcome you! If you are excited to find and share your 'fuck yeah', let's hang out!
Our BIPOC, Queer, and gender expansive friends are welcome. While this experience is designed to center and celebrate women, we are excited to also welcome a few, carefully selected, wonderful men.
-
Yes, you can absolutely bring your babie! Just know, this is a wild property with loads of hazards you will need to manage (and for sure sign a waiver). For children over the age of two, please reach out so we can discuss their attendance.
-
Well, you've probably gathered that if profanity offends you, this might not be a fun experience for you.
If you're looking for a place to hit on people and try to hook up, this ain't it. There are loads of retreat spaces designed with you in mind, this just isn't one of them.
If you're in crisis or have a high level of acute therapeutic need, this event may not be a good fit for right now. We'll be discussing a wide range of topics, many of which could be potentially triggering or exacerbate your current struggles. If you're in a period of grief or otherwise having a tough time and you're not sure if this is a good fit, you can email wesharewisdom@gmail.com and we'll explore this and other options with you.
-
When you register and book your lodging, you'll fill out a form that will ask a few questions about yourself and if there are any teaching topics or activities you'd like to share with the group. We are SO excited to see what people chose to share. We do have a limited number of slots with varying times, so less than half of attendees will end up facilitating. We welcome every kind of idea to be tossed into the application, just know that we won't solidify the entire itinerary until we're closer to the event. So please register only if you're happy to participate, whether you're on the itinerary or not. There will be lots of down time to connect and share, too!
To apply to teach, you don't have to have a perfectly formed idea. You can give us a squishy description, and the facilitation team will follow up with you and workshop an ideal offering.
Offerings could include but are not limited to: belly dancing, group management, embodiment, financial management for entrepreneurs, yoga, gratitude practices, setting boundaries, self love, forest bathing, communal song, leading a game or crafty project, giving professional feedback, body painting, making a business pitch deck, responding to harassment, conversation that promotes connection in relationship, grief work, creating a personal mantra, etc. Truly anything goes, so send us a bunch of ideas and we'll take it from there.
Our intention is to have the itinerary fully fleshed out at least a week in advance of the event, so register and apply to share your wisdom early!
If your offering is selected, Katherine and Katelyn will meet with you via Zoom to do a trial run-through, help with any questions about the space, the group, the tone etc., and just cheer you on!
-
Nope.
Even though many attendees will be therapists and healthcare providers of different varieties, we can safely say this is way more fun than therapy.
Nothing about participating in this event constitutes a therapeutic relationship, or a patient-provider relationship.

There's a gorgeous apple orchard with sites, and there are a few more in the forest. There are two kitchens that you'll have access to (except right before meals when the kitchen teams are whipping up incredible plant-based meals). There are beautiful, custom composting toilets and hot showers, as well as a couple of clear ponds you can jump in.

-
Yes, absolutely. You can book dates at the Shire before and after the retreat by going to: www.sunrayshire.org
You can't book your retreat lodging there because we reserved the whole Shire for our retreat, so please go to the lodging link above to book for the retreat. Our lodging prices listed are the total cost for both nights.
-
The policy is no refunds.
Our margins are super tight, and we just can't absorb the loss of a last-minute cancelation.
-
Totally, you're kinda missing out, but sure. We can't reduce the price of attending the retreat, though.
-
We're challenging participants to try and refrain from using their devices for 48 hours. Everyone has different responsibilities, and maybe you can't do that for a weekend... but can you?
We ask you to try. If not, yes there is wifi and reception at the Shire.
However, we are going to ask that any use of tech be done away from the group.

Auna Kaufmann
I am a Master's student at the University of Wyoming studying public administration and environmental policy; my background is in wildlife ecology and I am an avid birder, backpacker, hunter, and forager. I grew up in Wisconsin, and spent time in Colorado, Louisiana, and Oregon before settling in Wyoming in 2020. In my free time I enjoy fiber arts (spinning and knitting) as well as drawing and painting in many mediums, bookbinding, leatherworking, cooking elaborate meals for my friends, playing roller derby, and spending time with my dog, Waverly. I have a passion for understanding the entirety of a topic, making beautiful things, and love to slow down and appreciate small details.
I have spent the past year putting a significant amount of work into my personal growth and mental health, including receiving a formal autism diagnosis and working out what that means for my life and self-care routine. I am spending time leaning into building understanding, accepting community, allowing myself immersion in special interests, and beginning to unmask in ways that allow me to be more present and authentic in my day to day life. I am hoping to continue into the future building more genuine connection in my life and learning as much as I can.

Jimmy Beckwith
Traumatized biracial kid turned osteopathic Family Medicine doctor. Trying to overcome generational trauma any way he can—for himself, his family, and his patients. Has a love for teaching, and is core faculty at a community based residency program in Hillsboro, Oregon. Passionate about fighting health disparities, and teaching the next generations of physicians how to practice trauma informed care. Also a proponent of a mental health first approach in primary care (if we don’t ask, sometimes they don’t tell, even on the questionnaire’s!). Mostly allopathic these days, but wish I could practice more OMT! “I’ve heard people say our traumatic experiences come roaring back in our 30’s, and that’s true for me—thanks Pete Walker. Long time lover of meditation, yoga, books, journaling, the outdoors, and therapy—lots of therapy. I’m learning to find peace & solace in deeper spiritual practices as I look inwards, and shed light on painful wounds. I’m a work in process, but there are some good insights included! Thanks for having me :)”

Airen Vandevoort
I am a photographer, creative writer, mental health advocate, and paradox-holding mystic of an empath who is an all-around intense neurodivergent single mom to a 21-year-old son and a 14-year-old autistic trans son. I adore diving into the human psyche to try to understand the human mind. Yet, I am repeatedly reorientated to my energetic body, which reminds me that it has an intelligence my mind will never comprehend. I have learned to dance with both through years of work with my mentor and coach, Adriana Rizzolo, who has shown me a path toward my purpose and to love in ways I never imagined. I consider my primary language to be through visual emotion. My photography allows me to speak when words fail me. In my day job, I am a Creative Producer for a winery and olive mill in Oregon, and in my personal life, I have found a sense of purpose by using my art to hold space as a healing modality for people's grief, my own included.

Arlene Moss
In my work life, I help fee-for-service financial planners get out of their own way in order to grow their practices. With over two decades of industry expertise, a knack for making meaningful connections, and a deftness for breaking emotional and mental barriers, I spend my days in delightful 1:1 coaching or small group coaching experiences. When I am not with clients I create content and tools to help them better create the businesses they love.
Most of my life is not work, however. That's when I enjoy traveling, reading, skiing, hiking and riding bikes—road, tandem, or e-bike depending on mood and circumstances. I try to experience gratitude every day, whether it is something as simple as the fact I still love my husband even after almost 40 years and three kids, or the hummingbirds that love to hover around our flowers.

Chris Warren
In many respects I don't feel my background life story is particularly remarkable. I was and am very fortunate to have had the socioeconomic status and resources I do available to me. The pursuit of what interested me led me down a path fraught with self-created misfortune and also life altering experiences that granted me the space to be grateful for everything and everyone I have had in my life. I found my way into my career through a passion for health, and osteopathic medicine was the the first path in healthcare training I was shown that was more in line with that concept. I've learned through the many years that we as a profession and a society at large are disconnected from the lifeline of health. It is my goal to bring us back on the path to the inherent healing that is present in the universe and within us all.

I grew up on Rainbow farm in the Oregon coast range with back to the land hippy parents. After college I was a bike mechanic before accidentally having a career at Microsoft bringing ads to the internet. After a decade of corporate life I decided that I wanted to be a doctor and went to medical school at 38yo. This pretty much bankrupted us but my wife has a flair for adventure and didn't mind at all. I lived in the Caribbean and then NYC during medical school before returning to my roots in the Pacific Northwest. I am an outpatient adult medicine doctor and love my life. I also love all things with 2 wheels, unusual people, and having adventures. My superpower is not being judgementa

Wendy Van Sickle
Hey everyone! I'm Wendy. I haven’t written a bio in…well, ever, so here it goes. I am a somebody to many and a nobody to many more. I call Indiana my hometown, and nature my home. I’m a Christian and a sinner, sister to 4 older sinners, daughter of 2, and mother of 1. I’ve always had friends, played sports and made good grades, but my emotional deprivation and sense of wanderlust always had me feeling a tad displaced. After moving back and forth from Indiana to Tennessee after high school, mixed with having a child and getting divorced, I wound up in Indiana to help with the care of my aging parents while my son stayed in Tennessee. He will be 34 this month and I love him beyond words.
As of April, both of my parents are now gone. So, I did what anybody would do and quit my 9-5 corporate job in IT and decided to take a big risk and explore what’s out there tugging at my heart. I decided to start an adventure business, renting kayak trips and camping gear for those that don’t have or don’t want to invest in gear but would like to try camping or go on a local river trip. I was ready to launch but someone upstairs had bigger plans for me. On August 1, I headed for a meditation retreat in Ontario and instead of going home after, I decided to keep going and take that road trip of a lifetime while I’m still living…and, advertise for my future business along the way. You guessed it, I am Alaska-bound with a stop in Sedro-Wooley to spend some quality time with all of you strangers! This journey, from the start, has turned into something I couldn’t have planned. I find myself in the middle of nowhere and in the middle of nowhere, I find more and more of myself. See you soon!

Nate Gory
Nate is a sweet silly goose who's crazy for nature, connection, and noodles. He's driven by food, a curiosity for all things in the natural world, and an appreciation for the splendid and challenging variety experiences that come with existence.
A lifetime of pursuing ever-changing interests has seen him explore a degree in theater and video production, professional experience as a coffee artist, DJ, vintage vendor, and cannabis expert, and many hobbies in photography, cooking and fermentation, and foraging. An intense case of burnout from a thriving 6 years in the cannabis industry made him decide to change direction, buying a camper van and spending the last year and a half healing, exploring, seeing beautiful sights and cultures, and reconnecting with his loved ones and self. He finds himself recently landing in Bellingham and is looking forward to building his next chapter, one he wants to make full of love, community, creativity, and again, noodles.'I'm a total newbie to retreats, and I'm so grateful for the fairly magical fashion in which I was called to this one. I look forward to meeting all these sweet souls and to being a vessel for all the knowledge and spaciousness being offered here!'
cheers and love! - Nate

Natalie Talbott
I don't have bio from this incredible gal yet but let me (Katelyn) tell you a bit about her. Natalie is the kind of friend who you call at any hour for anything and she's there. Her kindness just seeps into every action. She in inherently joyous and permission giving and so damn real. She is always down and the kinda friend that supports your dreams in absolutely every way possible. She's inclusive and treats and sees humans as humans. As a Doctor she saw a few transgender patients who were so impressed with her respectful and whole-hearted professional support that they sent their friends. Natalie now has magnitudes more trans patients than the average doc and is excited to act as a bridge person for colleagues who have had less exposure. I'm sure she wouldn't put this in a bio but I'm writing this thing and I think that that shit, says a lot. She also starts her answer to complex questions with 'I'll tell you what I don't know' and it's the most disarming and wonderful shit you'll ever experience in a chat.

Rachael Martel
Rachael identifies as a Jill of all trades, with ADHD, so a master of none. :) Her first love has always been the outdoors followed closely by anthropology, art, music, dance, and journalism. Rachael’s initial dream was art school or the Peace Corps, but finances pushed her into the unlikely direction of the Air Force. After an eye-opening experience on active duty as a loadmaster, Rachael returned to a more authentic path determined to help and heal the community of people displaced by war around her. She pursued a BA in International Studies with minors in Arabic and International Development at Colorado State University, studied abroad in Amman, Jordan, and volunteered as an English, GED, and Naturalized Citizen Testing tutor at the Immigrant & Refugee Center of Northern Colorado.
Eventually, it was time for Rachael to return to the peace and pace of the outdoors and allow her creative energy to expand. A partnership with an outdoorsman quickly set her on a journey of seasonal life between Alaska & Colorado and became a guide for wilderness expeditions for veterans and retreats for family caregivers. With a little one in the mix, Rachael got a flexible full-time job at CSU serving student veterans in higher education and a real estate license. She is now finding passion in being a socialist landlord, building a lady commune, and helping veterans, first time homebuyers, and women build wealth through investing in real estate.

I'm Terri and was born in Alaska and raised in the NW. I was a competitive Ice Skater from the time I was 6yrs old and started coaching right after high school. I spent 3years in Washington DC working for Eastern airlines and came back to Seattle in 1988. I've been a Flight Attendant since then for Alaska Airlines and spent 20 years at the Anchorage base before returning to Seattle in 2017. I have a wonderful 25 year old son and have been trying to figure out my escape from the airline business for the last several years after a divorce. I look forward to meeting you all!

Born and raised in New Jersey, I loved my childhood but quickly realized I possessed a west coast soul after adolescence. That pull caused me to move shortly after college to Southern California, Northern California and finally Washington; fulfilling my northwest migration. I currently hypothesize that kind/adventurous/curious/open minded people, and searching for/spending time in wild places are the source of my pilgrimage. Three years ago on this journey, I found a caring partner and quickly became a father to my now 12 year old silly yet emotionally mature stepdaughter. Three months ago, I met my newborn son who I now love taking on little adventures. I still cling to a strong sense of personal identity with this relatively new family but have a strong desire and vision to build a more expansive identity with them.
